Dearest Clarissa – I have been meaning to write you for ages…I hope you are doing well! See attached some recent pictures of the most beautiful dogs in South Carolina…and possibly the entire world.
I want to update you on our boys – your beautiful brother-babies formally known as Ashley and Arthur…now officially Beaumont of Adair Place (Ashley) and King Arthur of Adair Place. Beau and Arthur (Dr. Bill calls Arthur "Art" because despite his keen intelligence and countless years of formal education, Bill is convinced that dogs can only understand and respond to one syllable names…) Men, go figure.
Clarissa, I remember so vividly you telling me about the intense and absolute love of boy dogs (remember, I had never had a male dog before?) and I have thought so often since then how right you are! I have never been loved so sweetly or completely by any living creature…human or otherwise. These precious boys are truly the loves of my life (with apologies to Bill…a very close third!) :-). I also remember you telling us, despite Beau's obvious physical superiority, that Arthur was the Alpha Dog of the pack. Also, so very true. When we first brought them home, I almost had to teach/train Arthur to relax and accept affection. I can remember holding him in my arms and practically forcing him to let me hold him close until his body would un-tense and he would just lay there and look into my eyes as if he was learning a new skill. Now, not only does he love to be held and cuddled, but whenever he looks at me, he seems to smile…his little face radiating sweetness and affection. Beau was the love-bug from the very beginning…a total cuddle bunny despite his size. That child would follow Arthur to the ends of the earth, I believe, and he is always looking for Bill and I in the yard, through the glass door of the kitchen, outside the windows…he loves his parents and is constantly loyal and loving.
Definitely a true case of Yin and Yang. The two of them are such a pair – I cannot imagine them not being together! It is such a sweet blessing to see them still cuddling together in their bed at night…see their little twin faces looking at us through the kitchen door… and just know that they have each other throughout the day to play and keep company and just be brothers. They are so funny together – so alike yet so different.
Arthur went through a phase of escapism and adventure that turned into a test of strategy and will between he and I, as I made countless trips to Lowes and spent countless dollars trying to enclose a six-inch escape route under the wall of Bill's backyard. As Arthur would sit and survey my attempts at containment and calculate his strategies to undo those efforts, I could see the wheels of his keen mind just spinning. Beau would sit back…watch and wait for Brother to figure it out and follow his lead… This went on for weeks and weeks. I kept telling Bill, "I refuse to let a six-month old puppy outsmart me!" Alas, not only did he outsmart me…it took a professional handyman finally coming in to install an iron gate across that drainage access before Arthur gave up on his fun little game. He totally kicked my butt! Yes, he is the smartest person in our family…and I love that about him.
Things have grown into a content and comfortable normal….the boys understand that during the week they have a mostly-absentee, work-aholic daddy…their mommy makes frequent visits and they seem so happy and grateful in their space…go nuts when we pull out their leashes for a walk, never fail to wiggle and wag whenever we are around, love their occasional "invite" into the house for a little snuggling and TV time. I prayed for them to not be nasty boys…humping and leg-lifting…and God answered my silly little prayer. They are true gentlemen and still squat down and pee like little girls. I feel so blessed!
Clarissa – all this just to say THANK YOU. We are so grateful to have these precious boys in our life and they are such an important part of our life together. Although we have five grown kids between us, these are our babies to share and we love and enjoy them so much. Blessings to you and your family – canine and otherwise. Love, Amanda and Bill (and Beau and Arthur).

Clarissa, You raise wonderful pets. I have come to love Beau(renamed from Dillon) for his wonderful personality. Even though he is adorable, a term that I have heard from friends, neighbors, and relatives, I love that he is fiesty and tenacious. He just never quits and yet he is such a well behaved puppy. He has taken to his new home, a traveling crate and is almost housebroken in one week. The amazing aspect of that is he does not whine in the crate, but entertains himself on chew toys that I got for him. For me, watching him run is so much more entertaining than any show on TV. I was very impressed by the way you and your daughter care for all those wonderful doggies. I told my friend about the French Bulldogs and she is interested. As for me, I am sold on my Norwich, my Beau. I plan to call him Beauregard, when and if, I ever get mad at him. I will email my address.
